Coronado has been developing ultra-narrowband filters and associated technologies for the professional market for well over 40 years. For the past six years they have been providing innovative optics specific to the needs of the amateur and professional Solar observer. Coronado Ha filters... The most effective method of viewing the sun is by isolating the Hydrogen-Alpha (Ha) wavelength at 656.3nm and rejecting all other types of light. At this wavelength you are able to view all the features of the chromosphere, which originates just above the photosphere. These features include flares, prominences, filaments, spiculae, faculae, and active regions. As the sun is constantly changing, the view through a Coronado filter is always new and exciting. Whether you watch a sunspot group march across the surface or a prominence explode thousands of miles into space there will always be something unique to view through these filters and purpose built telescopes using them. Below are the range of purpose built Coronado Ha Solar telescopes available through Broadhurst Clarkson & Fuller Ltd. via their dealer network. |

Coronado Personal Solar Telescope (PST)
| The ever changing solar disk presents itself in the PST with tunable views of prominences and surface detail previously unavailable at even 3 times the cost. Sub angstrom Ha systems have long been cost prohibitive for the amateur. Designs other than the Coronado are difficult to use because of temperature and f/ratio requirements. Not only does the PST have a bandpass of 1.0 angstrom but it is also thermally stable and requires no more time to operate than putting in a eyepiece and adjusting the focus. The PST represents the same technology and quality that goes into a SolarMax series telescope but with a few unique design characteristics that allow it to be offered for less than the price of some premium eyepieces. The PST will show prominences, active regions, filaments, as well as other surface details – at 1.0 angstrom it will not reveal as much surface detail as the SolarMax series telescopes and filters but it certainly doesn’t disappoint. Specifications: Aperture: 40mm, focal length: 400mm, f/ratio: f/10 Bandwidth: 1.0Å - 0.6Å Thermal Stability: 0.005 A/C Blocking: Full blocking 10-5 from EUV to far IR. The PST is made from milled aluminium, not plastic! It comes with a built in "Sol Ranger" finder for easy alignment, a 12mm Kellner eyepiece, and a re-usable box with dye-cut foam for safe storage. Optional accessories include a hard travel case, MALTA tabletop mount, CEMAX series eyepieces, and SolarMax40 filter for double stacking and narrowing the bandpass. Adding a SolarMax 40 requires the T-Max 40 for attaching the unit directly to the PST. | |
Coronado Personal Solar Telescope (PST) CaK
| Introducing the new PST CaK based on the amazing PST but isolating the Calcium K (CaK) wavelength of light. This deeper cooler level of the chromosphere is where you can image the gathering and dispersing of the Suns magnetic lines. It is now possible to capture detail previously thought of as impossible at this fascinating wavelength. All the accessories for the PST are compatible with this amazing new instrument. SPECIFICATIONS: Aperture 40mm, Focal length 400mm, Focal ratio F10, Bandwidth Max 2.2A Thermal Stability 0.005 A/C, Blocking Full blocking 10-5, From EUV to Far IR | |
Coronado SolarMax40 Solar telescope
| The SolarMax40 telescope has the same aperture as the PST, but is distinguished by several key factors. The SolarMax40 telescope comes standard with a 0.7angstrom bandpass which results in increased surface detail across the disk. A T-Max attached directly behind the etalon gives the ability to adjust for Doppler shifted light. Bino-viewers and most imaging equipment will come to focus, sometimes with the use of a Barlow or OCS. These features plus enhanced surface detail make the SolarMax40 telescope a more versatile instrument with remarkable solar images. With the SolarMax40 telescope it is possible to see all of the limb detail present in PST images. but with enhanced surface features. The SolarMax40 telescope comes standard with a BF5 blocking filter but a BF10 version is also available and recommended for use with imaging equipment and bino-viewers. The larger blocking filter allows users to extend the focal length without vignetting but does not enhance detail or lower the bandpass. A second SolarMax40 filter/T-Max can be purchased, along with a small adaptor plate, and these can be attached to the front in order to lower the bandpass to 0.5 angstroms. This is called ‘double stacking’ and further enhances surface detail. The SolarMax 40 telescope comes standard with a clamshell mounting ring and hard travel case. Optional accessories include "CEMAX" series eyepieces and "Sol Ranger" sun finder. Specifications: Aperture: 40mm, focal length: 400mm, f/ratio: f/10, Bandwidth: 0.7Å - 0.5Å, | |
Coronado SolarMax60 Solar telescope
| For enthusiasts looking for more aperture we proudly present the SolarMax 60 dedicated Ha telescope. Built to exacting standards the SolarMax60 telescope provides the user a telescope with the same lightweight portability of the SolarMax40 telescope but the extra aperture greatly increases the resolution of detail on the surface and on the limb of the Sun. With over twice the surface area of the SolarMax40 telescope the difference is obvious. The SolarMax60 telescope comes standard at 0.7 Angstroms with a BF10 and is available with an internal module to lower that to 0.5 Angstroms. A T-Max attached directly behind the etalon gives the user the ability to adjust for Doppler shifted light. Bino-viewers and most imaging equipment will come to focus, sometimes with the use of a Barlow or OCS. Included with every SolarMax60 telescope is a travel case, 25mm CEMAX eyepiece, and clamshell mounting system. Optional accessories include the "Sol Ranger" and additional CEMAX eyepieces. Specifications: Aperture: 60mm, focal length: 400mm, f/ratio: f/6.6, Bandwidth: 0.7Å - 0.5Å, | |
Coronado SolarMax60 Solar telescope CaK
| This model telescope is based on the popular SolarMax 70 telescope design and its mechanical functions remain largely the same. However, Coronado have developed a filter system for this unique instrument that allows for the standard production of a Calcium K telescope. This instrument focuses on the transmission line of CaK centered at 393.4 nanometers. The thermally stable interference filters allow you to view the chromospheric network of ionized calcium emissions that are created when supergranualtion cells sweep through magnetic fields where they collect and strengthen. This emission line will not be visible by eye to all observers and the primary use of the SolarMax 70 CaK telescope is for imaging. What you will capture with this new instrument are plage, active regions, and magnetic storms in a layer of ionized calcium gas that appears in a violet/blue hue. This layer of gas is a cooler and lower level of the Chromosphere than one observes through the Coronado H-Alpha filters and provides new information on solar activity and weather. SPECIFICATIONS: As with all Coronado products you can be assured of safety, quality, value and superior performance. This new telescope has the exact dimensions and mechanical performance as our SolarMax 70 telescope in H-Alpha. Binoviewers are unlikely to work with the telescope at this time and the SolarMax 70 CaK has been designed with imaging as its primary purpose. CCD, DSLR, and most digital formats will be compatible with the SolarMax 70 CaK. Some will require adaptors that Coronado does not provide but are the same as ones used for night time imaging. Dimensions Length – 15” to 17.5” Weight – 5lbs Includes: Hard travel case with die cut foam, clamshell mounting ring, Sol Ranger Sun finder Product Specifications Aperture: 70mm F/L: 400mm F/Ratio: 5.7 Bandwidth: Max 2.2Å Thermal Stability: 0.005 Å/C Blocking: Full blocking >10-5 from EUV to far IR | |
Coronado SolarMax70 Solar telescope - of special appeal to Schools and Universities
| An astronomy teachers’s best friend, the SolarMax70 telescope has been designed as a sealed unit with no removable parts other than the eyepiece. Combine this with its 70mm aperture and you have a dedicated and portable H-Alpha telescope that is ideal for use by both the experienced observer and the most novice. As the SolarMax70 telescope is sealed no critical parts can be removed and set up is a breeze even for school children. Coronado recommends that all solar viewing be done under adult supervision to ensure safe and effective results. The SolarMax 70 telescope is in use at universities, Senior and Primary schools, and their equivalents around the world. It is actually a version of the first Coronado dedicated H-Alpha telescope, Helios I, with technological improvements. All of the telescopes in this line (Helios I, NearStar, SolarMax series) feature a unique design with an etalon smaller than the actual aperture and positioned towards the rear of the OTA. This enables the price of the SolarMax70 telescope to be less than the SolarMax 60 telescope. The design creates a bandpass of 0.8 angstroms which is slightly higher than the standard for other SolarMax series telescopes. The SolarMax 70 telescope comes with a 25mm CEMAX eyepiece, clamshell mounting rings, "Sol Ranger" sun finder, and hard travel case. Optional accessories include the additional CEMAX eyepieces. Specifications: Aperture: 70mm, focal length: 400mm, f/ratio: f/5.7, Bandwidth: 0.8Å | |
